For the Kiddos

Read Like a Writer School Visits

Reading like a writer is a powerful skill for writers of all ages to develop. This hour-long presentation shows how young writers can read with purpose, ask questions, and use the literary techniques that inspire them in their own work. In this one-hour presentation I will:

  • share how reading like a writer inspires my work

  • use popular texts to show how kids can analyze plot, character, theme, word choice, and more

  • provide questions and prompts to encourage close reading at home

  • demonstrate how to make a writing notebook

Every child gets to assemble a mini notebook with stickers and prompts, so they can continue to read like a writer at home!

To learn about how you can bring Read Like a Writer to your community, use the form below to send me a note! I love meeting with kids of all ages, parents, teachers, and librarians, and I’m happy to adapt my presentation to fit the needs of your program.
